I am an Army retiree, and now semi-retired from work. I have published a book. I love to write. Now that I have time, I’d like to write to fulfill my dream and to create supplemental passive income.

Well, it would be great to get paid for something you’re good at, but mostly I need to fund my education and basically all aspects of my life since my dad has practically disowned me. So, yeah I want to build a career in it and show everyone that I’m a really good writer.

Read what you’ve written before you hit “Post” or “Print”. You have one misspelling, two typos, and an
awkward run-on second sentence. Editors send careless proofreading straight into the trash or the
delete button. If you’re pitching an idea to an editor, make sure you spell their name right!

I’m certainly looking forward to the webinar and what the future holds! Your generous mentor ship is appreciated. The opportunity to learn more about getting paid for doing something that I love is exciting, to say the least. I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. Journals, diaries, blogs, newsletters, flyers, infographics; mostly unpaid until recently. It is time to take the next step!

I can see from your comment that you will never sell any writing until you have mastered English. No
bonafide editor or publisher will consider your writing for an American publication. American English
is difficult to learn because it has so much variation and includes a lot of slang. I tell all young
ESLers to take some classes and learn English properly and thoroughly. It will open opportunities
for higher-paying jobs, no matter what kind of work. It will change your life!

Never tell an editor you love writing! It’s the Kiss of Death. To an editor, it says that you love the
IDEA of writing, because good writing is hard and not lovable when you’re staring at a deadline.

You should consider learning writing skills and how to find high-paying clients with
Onilusi Bamidele right there in Nigeria. He’s brilliant and very hardworking. As a poor
fatherless boy with five brothers and sisters, he realized at 16 that his only way to success
was via the Internet. He had no money to learn, so he cleaned a computer shop every
night that rented to users by the hour to trade for time on a desktop. It was his total focus,
he even gave himself a stomach ulcer, but he’s probably a millionaire by now. Google him,
you’ll find him. Serious writing is the hardest and most solitary thing you’ll ever do. It’s not
for the faint-hearted or lazy.. Good luck to you! Diane

I’ve been writing all my life. It’s not a hobby. It’s my passion. I have finshed material to submit (novel and screenplay), but I have NO idea where, how, or to whom to submit them to.

Hi Mylene – it’s a good hobby to assist you in other fields of study and useful as a teacher, but you will also need to test it out to see if others like your writing…and its creative so it positively affects your other areas of creative endeavour.
        Good luck, Peter

Professional writing isn’t a hobby. If you’re serious and want to succeed at it, you have to do it by yourself with no distractions. It’s the hardest, loneliest job, but that’s what it takes to create saleable
        writing.

I have never considered freelance writing, mostly because I 1) I have no idea what I would about, and 2) I would not know how to make connections with those who could use my writing skills.
